Preparing for the Interview

Before the Interview :

Steps to Preparing For An Interview
• Research the employer
• Be familiar with the position and know what you want to do
• Write your strengths or key selling points
• Prepare questions to ask about areas that are unclear
• Anticipate questions the interviewer may ask
• Role play the interview
• Practice speaking with confidence
• Prepare examples of your work if necessary.

The Day Of The Interview
• Examine your appearance and dress appropriately
• Be punctual
• Walk into the interview room with confidence
• Greet the interviewer with his or her surname
• Shake his or her hand and smile
• Sit upright, look alert and interested
• Maintain eye contact
• Do not be artificial, be yourself
• Be a good listener
• Try to get the interviewer to clarify the duties and responsibilities of the job
• Avoid being too brief with just “yes and no” answers
• Talk with pride, honesty and confidence about your potential and accomplishments, your
interest and commitment to the position
• Convey a readiness to learn the job
• DO NOT criticize former employers
• Ask, “Is there any additional information I can provide that will help you make your
decision?”
After The Interview
• Send a follow-up thank you letter after the interview
